THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO JORDAN PASS (2022)

The Ultimate Guide to Jordan Pass-compressedIf you ever plan to visit Jordan, you will definitely hear about Jordan Pass. Since you are reading this article, you have an intention to get Jordan Pass or learn more about it. Regardless of your familiarity with Jordan Pass, this ultimate guide to Jordan Pass will provide you with all the information you need to have to successfully obtain and use Jordan Pass.

WHAT IS JORDAN PASS

Jordan Pass is a travel and sightseeing package that was created by the Ministry of Tourism of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This pass was tailor-made for tourists, travelers, and backpackers who wish to visit the country. Holders of Jordan Pass can enter more than 40 of Jordan’s most famous and popular historic and sightseeing destinations including Petra. Also, holders of Jordan Pass are exempt from visa fees.

IS IT WORTH BUYING JORDAN PASS

Before buying Jordan Pass I was thinking about its advantages and benefits. Finally, I bought it. After practically using it, I came to the conclusion that Jordan pass definitely worth your money for several reasons:

YOU WILL SAVE MONEY

Jordan Pass will let you save money in several ways. First, you don’t have to pay for your visa on arrival if you have Jordan Pass. Plus, Jordan Pass gives you entry to Jordan’s most famous sightseeing destinations for free.

Let’s make some calculations. The price of Jordan Pass including a two-day entry to Petra is 75 JD (105 USD for Jordan Explorer). As I have already told you, holders of Jordan Pass are exempt from paying visa fees on arrival. Jordan visa on arrival currently costs 40 JD (approximately 60 USD) for 30 days. While visiting Jordan, you will surely want to visit Petra. Petra is one of the 7 wonders of the world, and you can’t skip visiting it if you (70 USD). One day in Petra is surely not enough, and therefore, you will want to spend at least two days in Petra (that’s what I did). A two-day ticket to Petra costs 55 JD (approximately 78 USD).

Thus, while arriving in Jordan without Jordan Pass, you will pay 60 USD for your visa on arrival + 78 USD further to enter Petra. Finally, you pay 138 USD to get the visa and visit Petra. Later, you will also pay for other attractions in Jordan some of them cost 10 JD – 15 JD (15$-20$). It will add up, and finally, you will pay at least 200 $ while you could pay only 105$ which would give you a free visa and free entry to more than 40 sightseeing places in Jordan including two consecutive days in Petra. Thus, you could save at least 100$.

100 USD isn’t big money, but for budget backpackers, every single cent matters. Even if this money doesn’t matter anything to you, why pay more when you can save and use this money for other things such as food, souvenirs, transportation, or air flight tickets?!

DECREASE YOUR CHANCE OF BEING DENIED ENTRY TO JORDAN

Jordan Pass gives you a look of a real tourist or traveler. Holders of Jordan Pass look less suspicious to airport customs officers and state security agents. If you have read some of my other articles dedicated to Jordan, you already know that Jordanese state security officers and policemen are very suspicious of foreign travelers. For them, every single tourist, traveler, or backpacker is a potential threat to the national security of Jordan. Their thinking reaches levels of severe paranoia.

When you arrive at Amman Queen Alia Airport and present your Jordan Pass to customs officers who would likely meticulously question you, you will help yourself a lot. A holder of Jordan Pass looks like a person whose intentions are travel, tourism, and visiting sightseeing places.

On the other hand, when you don’t have Jordan Pass, your purpose of travel isn’t clear. You will have to prove that you came to the country to visit Petra, Jerash, Umm Qais, and other historical landmarks. I don’t say that it takes a lot of work, but Jordan Pass takes all the paranoid suspicions down.

Don’t think that airport customs officers are the only people who would question you. While I was traveling in Jordan, I encountered Jordanese state security agents, soldiers, and policemen on several occasions. Every time, I was questioned and my passport was photographed for further analysis.

If you read travel and tourism forums, you will surely find stories of people who have been denied entry to Jordan. Regardless of your nationality, citizenship, religion, profession, age, and gender, you can get denied entry to Jordan.

Jordan Pass will decrease your chances of being denied entry to Jordan. It will give you the aura of an explorer who came to the country to travel. Otherwise, you will look like a mysterious person who might potentially be a foreign spy or an agent.
