Aqaba Public Beach reviewAqaba is a very touristy city in the South of Jordan. Jordan itself is a very small country, and it takes only a few hours to reach Aqaba from Amman. The pleasant waters of the Red Sea and beautiful beaches in Aqaba are some of the things that attract thousands of tourists to this wonderful city. Aqaba is also one of the best cities for diving and snorkeling.

You already know that you can swim in the Red Sea in Aqaba and there are beaches in the city. However, you should definitely gather more information before deciding which beach to choose for your holidays. In this blog post, I will provide you with all the necessary information regarding City Beach in Aqaba.

HOW TO GET TO AQABA CITY BEACH

Aqaba City Beach is located in the center of Aqaba. Actually, Aqaba itself is a very small city. As soon as you get to the city, you can reach the beach on foot, by taxi, or by hitchhiking. Hitchhiking works very well in Jordan, and therefore, I recommend hitchhiking instead of spending your money on a taxi.

Aqaba is a small city

If you are coming to Aqaba by taxi, you can ask your driver to drop you near Aqaba City Beach. If you are traveling to Aqaba by bus, the Aqaba bus terminal is very close to Aqaba Public Beach. It will take you five minutes to reach the beach from the bus station on foot.

AQABA CITY BEACH IS COMPOSED OF SAND

Whilst a lot of international beaches are composed of pebbles and sand, Aqaba City Beach is composed of sand. The beach isn't too big and you will surely find yourself a comfortable spot to relax during holidays and weekends.

My tip is to put your smartphone and other devices inside your bag if you don't want the sand to get inside them. Let yourself relax and have a rest from all the modern technologies for a day.

ENTRANCE TO AQABA PUBLIC BEACH IS FREE

Aqaba City Beach is a public beach, and therefore, it is completely free to visit the beach at any time of the day and night. You can come to the beach in the morning, afternoon, or night. The beach doesn't have any doors and it is always open for local and foreign visitors.

All sections of Aqaba Public Beach are free. You don't have to pay any fees to visit this beach. If you are looking for a beach near your Aqaba hotel, then Aqaba City Beach might be a perfect choice.

CLEANLINESS ON AQABA CITY BEACH

Aqaba City Beach is a well-maintained and clean beach. The city municipality pays a lot of attention to cleanliness on the beach. Every morning, workers of Aqaba city municipality come to the beach and clean it with special sticks. All the rubbish accumulated throughout the day and night gets cleaned.

Aqaba City Beach isn't among abandoned beaches. It is the central beach of Aqaba, and therefore, you can expect it to be very clean and well-maintained.

AVOID VISITING AQABA CITY BEACH ON FRIDAYS AND HOLIDAYS

Every Friday is a holiday in all Muslim countries. In Jordan, inhabitants of Amman and all other Jordanese cities come to Aqaba on Fridays. Therefore, the beach gets extremely crowded on this day.

The first time I visited Aqaba City Beach was on Friday. It was very crowded. It looked like a jammed family beach. I didn't see even a single solo tourist or traveler on the beach that day. To be honest, I was disappointed by the beach because it was very noisy and turbulent.

Aqaba beach crowded

Aqaba Public Beach gets crowded on Fridays and holidays.

After my first visit to Aqaba City Beach on Friday, I decided that I would never visit that beach again. Later, Jordanian people told me that the beach is always packed on Fridays and holidays. They also assured me that during working days the beach has a lot of empty space and it isn't noisy. I listened to their advice and fell in love with Aqaba City Beach during working days.

Muslim holidays such as Eid attract much more visitors to Aqaba City Beach than Fridays. Therefore, I recommend staying away from the beach during the holidays. Otherwise, you will hate the beach.

TOILETS AND SHOWERS ON CITY BEACH IN AQABA

Aqaba has toilets and showers. However, all of them are paid facilities. You will need to pay 0.25 JD for a toiled or a few minutes of shower. This price is absolutely justified. Plus, you don't need a lot of time to rinse salty sea water from your body. 24/7 toilets and showers are open on Aqaba City Beach. You don't have to be worried about it.

CHANGING CABINS ON AQABA PUBLIC BEACH

Unfortunately, there are no changing cabins on Aqaba Public Beach. However, if you go to the building where toilets and showers are situated, you can comfortably change your clothes there. For a small fee of 0.25 JD, you will get an opportunity to take shower, go to a toilet, or change your clothes.

CAFES AND RESTAURANTS ON CITY BEACH IN AQABA

There are no cafes or restaurants on Aqaba public beach. If you want to have a meal in a cafe, you will have to exit the beach, cross the road, and only then, you will find loads of cafes and restaurants that serve supremely delicious food.

Thus, if the food is very important to you, you should bring your food with you because cafes, bars, and other types of eateries are absent on Aqaba Public Beach.

FAST FOOD ON AQABA CITY BEACH

There is a lot of fast food on Aqaba Public Beach. Usually, you will see loads of men carrying different types of food such as corn, types of cookies, and buns. You can also buy cold water and juice on the beach. Of course, water and juice would cost you more expensive than in nearby supermarkets.

AVAILABILITY OF SUPERMARKETS ON AQABA PUBLIC BEACH

It will take you five minutes to reach the closest supermarket from Aqaba Public Beach. The beach itself doesn't have any stores or supermarkets. You will need to exit the beach, cross the road or go down the same road, and you will buy whatever your soul wants.

AVAILABILITY OF UMBRELLAS ON THE BEACH

Aqaba City Beach has prebuilt umbrellas and special constructions that will protect you from the sun. It is one of the best features of this beach that I appreciate. Even though Aqaba city beach isn't a luxurious beach, it is good that it features umbrella-like constructions that protect visitors from the sun.

CAMPING ON AQABA PUBLIC BEACH

Camping on Aqaba public beach is very common and legal. During my visits to the beach, I saw a lot of tents day and night. You can come and pitch your tent on the beach for absolutely free.

Camping on Aqaba Beach is very common and legal.

Avoid camping during hot summer days. If you plan to spend a night or nights on Aqaba City Beach, it is better to use just a sleeping bag without a tent. There are no bugs, ants, and other insects on the beach. Thus, you can be confident that nothing will disturb your sleep. Mosquitoes exist, but they aren't as harsh as in other places.

IS AQABA PUBLIC BEACH SAFE

Aqaba Public Beach is 100% safe. I have spent several days on the beach, and I haven't witnessed even a single scene of crime there. Aqaba police patrol the beach every 15 minutes. Every 15 minutes, you see that black and white car with blinkers cruising from right to the left and vice versa.

Jordan is one of the safest countries in the world. Touristic places are much safer than any other place in the country. Therefore, don't be worried about safety while relaxing on Aqaba Public Beach.

IS SWIMMING IN THE RED SEA SAFE

The Red Sea has very calm waters. Swimming there is safe. However, please, be aware of sea urchins. There are loads of sea urchins in the sea. If you dive or snorkel and will be swimming near coral reefs, be careful not to step on a sea urchin. You will surely step on them if you don't see what is under your feet.

For your safety, I recommend wearing swimming shoes. In this case, even if you step on a sea urchin, you won't hurt yourself. Otherwise, you risk hurting your feet.

As for sharks and other wild fish, you don't have to worry. The Red Sea is very safe and there haven't been any cases of sea animals attacking swimmers.

BEST TIME TO VISIT AQABA CITY BEACH

Summer and early autumn is the best time to visit Aqaba Public Beach. In winter, the weather might not be suitable for swimming. Plus, the seawater will be cold.

I was swimming in the Red Sea in June. The weather was scorching hot. It was 45 C outside. However, the seawater still felt cold. I think that July and August are the best months to swim in the Red Sea. Please, avoid swimming in early spring and autumn.

This is all the information you need to successfully organize and plan your holidays on Aqaba Public beach. I will update this data as soon as I see any changes in the functionality of Aqaba City Beach.

MY HONEST OPINION

Aqaba Public Beach is a nice beach for a first-timer in Aqaba. If you are in Aqaba for the first time, you won't even recognize all the disadvantages such as a high concentration of people, noise, and other things. Aqaba Public Beach might be a suitable place for swimming during non-holiday days. The availability and closeness of supermarkets to the beach is a great advantage.

If you want to swim for a couple of hours and have a rest under an umbrella while at the same time stay in the city center of Aqaba, then Aqaba City Beach is a good choice. If you are looking for a more secluded beach with a vibe of luxury, cristally clean sand and water, then it is better to choose another beach in Aqaba.
